You just finished a full calibration, confirmed zero, and 10 minutes later it’s drifted again. When a scale won't stay zeroed after calibration, it’s easy to assume the calibration failed — but the real cause is often something that happened during or after the process. This guide breaks down the most common hidden causes and permanent fixes.

1. Wrong calibration weight grade

Using a weight with too low an accuracy grade means the calibration itself is inaccurate. The balance calibrates to a wrong reference point, so zero drifts immediately.Fix: Match weight grade to your balance class: E2 for analytical balances, F1 for precision balances, M1 for industrial scales. Always use traceable certified weights.

2. Calibration done with the windshield open

Airflow during calibration causes the sensor to calibrate to an offset baseline. Once conditions change, zero shifts.Fix: Always calibrate with all windshield doors fully closed. Keep the room draft-free during the full process.

3. Temperature shift during calibration
