In daily laboratory work, weighing data deviation is one of the most frequent problems. Many teams will directly attribute the error to the accuracy of the balance itself, but in fact, more than 70% of daily weighing errors are caused by controllable environmental and operational factors. Mastering the basic troubleshooting logic can greatly reduce invalid experiments and improve work efficiency.

Hochoice analytical balance weighing error troubleshooting scene in laboratory

1. Air flow and environmental vibration

Air flow from air conditioners, fume hoods and passing personnel, as well as micro-vibration from surrounding equipment, are the most common causes of reading fluctuation. For microgram-level analytical balances, even tiny air flow will cause obvious data jitter and prolong the stabilization time.

Troubleshooting: Place the balance away from air outlets and walkways; close the windshield completely during weighing; check whether the workbench is stable and whether there is equipment vibration nearby.

2. Static electricity interference

Dry environment, plastic containers and tweezers are easy to generate static electricity, resulting in sample adsorption and stable value deviation. This problem is particularly prominent in winter and air-conditioned rooms, and is one of the most easily overlooked error sources for trace sample weighing.

Troubleshooting: Use anti-static containers and tools; increase environmental humidity appropriately; choose balances with anti-static treatment in the weighing chamber.

3. Unleveled balance placement

After moving the balance or long-term use, the horizontal position is easy to shift. If the balance is not in a completely horizontal state, the force direction of the sensor will deviate, resulting in systematic error of the weighing results.

Troubleshooting: Check the level bubble before each use; adjust the foot screws to keep the bubble in the center position.

4. Temperature difference between sample and environment

Samples taken out of the refrigerator or drying oven have a temperature difference from the environment, which will drive air convection around the weighing pan, resulting in buoyancy change and reading drift.

Troubleshooting: Place the sample at room temperature for enough time before weighing; avoid holding the weighing container directly by hand to prevent temperature conduction.

5. Contamination and residue on weighing pan

Spilled samples, dust and residual liquid will cause additional weight, resulting in zero point deviation and affecting the accuracy of subsequent weighing. Corrosive samples will also damage the surface of the weighing pan for a long time.

Troubleshooting: Clean the weighing pan and windshield regularly; clean up spilled samples immediately; avoid direct contact of corrosive samples with the weighing pan.

6. Calibration not performed in time

Temperature changes, long-term operation and position movement will cause tiny drift of sensor parameters. Without timely calibration, the error will gradually accumulate, resulting in overall deviation of weighing data.

Troubleshooting: Establish a regular calibration system; calibrate immediately after moving the balance or when the ambient temperature changes greatly; prefer balances with automatic calibration function.

7. Overload and rough operation

Frequent overload weighing and violent placement of heavy objects will impact the sensor, causing irreversible performance attenuation and shortening the service life of the balance.

Troubleshooting: Strictly operate within the weighing range; gently place samples and containers; avoid pressing the weighing pan directly by hand.

For most laboratories, standardizing operating procedures and doing a good job in daily maintenance can solve most weighing errors. On this basis, choosing equipment with optimized structural design can further reduce the difficulty of daily management. Hochoice analytical balance series are designed with fully enclosed multi-layer windshield, built-in level bubble, anti-static weighing chamber and automatic calibration system, which can effectively reduce the probability of the above errors from the product end and help users obtain more stable and reliable weighing results.
